Ember, the Mountain Brushtail Possum came into care after a frightening fall into a lit fireplace. The owners, unaware that there was a possum calling their chimney home, spared up their fire after a long summer, only to see a frightened and screaming possum drop into the flames. With quick thinking, the owners reached in an plucked the desperate animal from certain death.

When I received Ember she was in much pain, having suffered third degree burns to all four paws as well as burns to her face, eyes, ears and scorching to most of her fur.

Ember was treated by the vet, bandages was applied to her burns, but after a few days it became apparent that this animals injuries was too severe , and sadly she was euthanased.

Unfortunately, due to the drastic lack of natural habitat, Possums are taking up residence in people's roofs. Please, before you light a fire this winter, ensure your roof and chimney is sealed off to animal intruders (make sure none are trapped in your roof before you close it up).
