Swamp wallabies in care

June 2011

Currently we have three Swamp wallaby joey's in care at Wildlife mountain, all as a result of car accidents where their mothers were killed.

The youngest seen in image on the left was rescued in March at that stage un furred. Now 10 weeks later she is furred and hopping in and out of her pouch interacting with the others in care.

The other two were a bit older and furred when they came in to care in April.

Sad facts are that as development increases in wildlife areas animals are loosing habitat, having to cross roads in order to find food, coming in to contact with domestic pets, all scenarios that spell disaster for our precious wildlife.

When traveling on country roads please be aware that animals may cross your path, slow down and if you come across an injured animal please stop and call your nearest wildlife rescue organisation. Remember that our marsupials all have pouches, stop and check the pouch of a dead marsupial as a joey may be very much alive in need of a helping hand.

We would also like to acknowledge the amazing support and help we have had from the Lismore Vet Clinic who have been an invaluable support to both us and the native wildlife of this region.
