Eastern Grey Kangaroo joey July 2011
Where we are located kangaroos do not appear, however when this little fellow found himself delivered to a Lismore veterinary clinic by a member of the public ( having shot his mum for dog food ) he was taken in to care here. He will however be transferred to another carer when he is a bit older so he can be released back where he came from and where he will have the company of other Eastern Grey
So far he spends his time in his pouch, shortly he will be in the outside enclosure with the wallabies also in care.
It is a great experience being able to care for other species of macropod's other than wallabies, having the little fellow in care is interesting as I have found him quite different to the wallaby joey's in so far that he is much more shy and he hides his face immediately by bringing his arms over his eyes if disturbed. Such a gentle beautiful creature. Currently it is a funny situation feeding a tiny Pademelon just over 250gram, then the next feed is this baby same stage of development, but so much larger at almost 2kg and seems like he is all feet. We would also like to acknowledge the amazing support and help we have had from the Lismore Vet Clinic who have been an invaluable support to both us and the native wildlife of this region.
